Popular French restaurant Coquette will open in its newly relocated South Tryon spot on Wednesday, March 4.
Why it matters: The French-inspired restaurant, café and buvette has become an Uptown staple since opening in 2023.
- Although its new location is only four blocks away from the original, "for Charlotte people, that's quite the distance," owner Jill Marcus tells Axios.
Driving the news: Coquette's new address is 101 S Tryon St., across from the new McColl Park.
- The original spot closed on Sunday, Feb. 22, giving the team a 10-day turnaround. "We didn't want the employees to be without a job for too long," Marcus says.

What to expect: Coquette will open daily for lunch, brunch and dinner.
- The new space has 60 more seats than the previous location, including two private dining rooms and an outdoor patio.
Dig in: Executive chef Stefano Gallo will create new "elevated" dishes for the menu, says Marcus, but much of the menu will remain the same.
- "The menu is not your typical bistro fare ... it feels more like a family restaurant that you would visit in France," Marcus says.
- Lunch will have a pre-fixe menu option, and they're adding the popular duck fat fried chicken to the menu, too. Dinner is a bit more upscale.
- One major change at first is the absence of French pastries. Marcus hopes to open a separate bistro in the same building as Coquette later this year.

By the numbers: The build-out cost about $550,000, according to Marcus.
- The original spot cost about $2M.
Between the lines: Coquette's original home at 400 S. Tryon, a distressed 32-story office tower, was sold at auction this year to Citizens Bank and Synovus Bank for $36 million after its lenders foreclosed on the property, CBJ reported.
