The Giving Machine is back until Dec. 7

The Giving Machine is set up at Carolina Place Mall in Pineville through Sunday, Dec. 7.

How it works: Think of it as a vending machine for good. Visitors can "purchase" real items for people in need — from laundry detergent and diapers for local families to livestock and school supplies for communities around the world.

• Donation amounts vary from $5 to $180.

If you go: The Giving Machine will host several events this weekend, including karaoke from 6-8pm on Saturday and Christmas music 4-6pm on Sunday.
