Big Ben Pub closing in Elizabeth, seeking new home

State of play: Big Ben Pub will close at 5pm on Sunday, Nov. 2, its owners announced on Instagram.

• Gandhi tells Axios that the business was solid, but he wants to bring back a more traditional English pub feel over the current full-scale restaurant vibe.

Flashback: Big Ben's first home was in Myers Park, but a fire destroyed the original location in 2010.

Zoom out: Gandhi co-owns several other local sports bars — Graham St. Pub and Clutch Kitchen & Pour House in Uptown, Caswell Station in Elizabeth and Tremont in South End.

What's next: A new restaurant group is taking over the lease at 1535 Elizabeth Ave., but Big Ben's next home hasn't been determined.

• "The plan is not for Big Ben to leave Charlotte, but to find something more quaint," Gandhi says.
