Two local dog adoption events happening Oct. 25

Two dog adoption events are happening in Charlotte today. One's for beer fans and another is for board game pros — both are for those looking for their next furry companion.

Before you go, here's what to know about each.

The Charlotte Pup Crawl

In support of Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control, the Charlotte Pup Crawl returns to HopFly Brewing today from noon-3pm.

What to expect: 10+ dog-friendly breweries pouring local favorites.

• Dog obstacle course and splash pools
• Vendor village selling treats, gear and pet-friendly products
• On-site adoptions and microchip updates

If you go: You can buy tickets ($40) online or at the door.

Adoptable Dog Chess Tournament at Heist Brewery and Barrel Arts

Hosted by local dog treat company Furever Snacks and the Chess Klub of Ballantyne, this chess tournament supports three local rescues: South Charlotte Dog Rescue, Halfway There Rescue and Kal's Pals Animal Rescue.

What to expect: Besides the tournament, there will be adoptable dogs on-site. Plus:

• Custom 3D-printed chess pieces inspired by adoptable dogs (and available for order)
• Family-friendly activities like free-play tables and coloring stations

If you go: The tournament starts at 1pm. A $20 donation for adults is required to play; kids are free.
