Cheat's Cheesesteaks brings local taste to Charlotte menu

Cheat's Cheesesteaks is revamping its menu and collaborating with other local businesses.

Why it matters: Cheat's — originally a pop-up with now two brick-and-mortars — rose in popularity because of its authentic Philly cheesesteaks, made with Cheez Whiz on Amoroso's buns.

But "authenticity is no longer the goal," according to Ryan Hart, operating partner for 1957 Hospitality Group. Instead, they want to craft something uniquely Charlotte.

Driving the news: Local ingredients are now front and center at Cheat's, including rolls from Manolo's Bakery, brisket from Sweet Lew's BBQ and chicken from Springer Mountain Farms.

Its menu will now feature daily sandwich specials and a build-your-own cheesesteak format.

Stop by: 913 Pecan Ave. in Chantilly and 2127 Hawkins St. in South End.
