New SouthPark restaurant Laurel Park opens soon in old Village Tavern spot

A new restaurant called Laurel Park will open this fall in SouthPark, in the space on the corner of the Rotunda Building previously occupied by Village Tavern on Congress Street.
Why it matters: Village Tavern was a cherished neighborhood mainstay for 35 years before it closed last October. Laurel Park aims to honor the restaurant's legacy while delivering something fresh to the area.
Details: Brett Faldstein, former executive chef at Sea Level, will lead the kitchen at Laurel Park, sourcing ingredients from North Carolina farms, according to the restaurant.
- Customers can expect new American cuisine with international influences, including duck barbacoa empanadas, fresh pastas and a bistro filet. The restaurant's team is describing the menu as "creative yet approachable" and "rooted in comfort."
- The pastry team will make breads and desserts in-house daily, including the warm stuffed focaccia that greets customers as they sit down.
- Lunch and dinner will be served daily, and brunch will be available on the weekends.
The space: Laurel Park will feature 5,500 square feet of indoor dining plus a sprawling, 2,000-square-foot patio, which will also have an open-air bar and fireside seating.
What's next: An opening date was not immediately available, but the team is aiming for sometime in October, according to a spokesperson.
