North Carolina teachers spend an average of $1,632 of their own money to stock their classrooms with everything from supplies to snacks, according to a new report from CouponBirds.
Why it matters: North Carolina ranks second-worst in the U.S. for teacher out-of-pocket spending, trailing only Pennsylvania by $5, and well surpassing the national average of $1,021.
The total also increased 22% from last year's average of $1,338.
What they're saying: "North Carolina teachers are faced with rising out-of-pocket costs at the same time their pay stagnates with no state budget in place," the North Carolina Association of Educators stated.
