"Small plates," "tapas," "shareables," whatever you want to call them — you can find restaurants featuring these types of dishes in nearly every Charlotte neighborhood.
But one local favorite is credited with being among the first to popularize the concept in our city: Good Food on Montford.
Context: As Charlotte evolves, its history sometimes slips through the cracks. We believe in honoring the businesses that have grown alongside it. Our occasional series, "It's Still Good," is our way of highlighting locally owned favorites.
- Located on Montford Drive, Good Food on Montford offers globally inspired small plates with ingredients from local farms. It has remained consistent in a neighborhood that's maturing alongside its patrons, who once bar-hopped the streets they now push their strollers through.
Dig in: The food at Good Food is as fresh as it is versatile, offering dishes and flavors inspired by Greece, Korea, Italy and more.
Starting Monday, July 28, the restaurant will have weeknight specials three nights a week, including:
- Mussels and Martini Mondays — Green curry mussels and house martinis are $12 each.
- $10 Tuesdays — A special menu will feature select small plates for $10, plus house cocktails and wines by the glass are also $10.
- Wine Wednesdays — All bottles of wine are half price.

Flashback: Bruce and Kerry Moffett opened Good Food on Montford in 2009, following the success of Bruce's first Charlotte restaurant, Barrington's — another longtime favorite.
- Since then, dozens of other Charlotte restaurants have latched onto the small plates approach to dining, but real ones know that Good Food is the OG.

The vibe: Classy but casual. The exposed brick walls, artsy lighting and a relaxed-elevated energy make you feel at home without being stuffy.
- It's great for a cozy date night, for catching up with old friends on the patio, or for dining solo at the chef's counter.
Stop by: 1701 Montford Dr.
- Open 5-10pm, Monday-Saturday. Closed on Sundays.
What we're watching: Bruce is opening a cocktail lounge and wine bar called Sala next door to Stagioni, another one of his restaurants that consistently lands in the top rankings of our annual "best restaurants" list.
- It's slated to open in September, according to Unpretentious Palate.
