The Charlotte Hornets' multi-year partnership with Novant Health now includes the naming rights for the team's new practice facility. It will be called Novant Health Performance Center.
Why it matters: The team's new facility will transform the area across from Spectrum Center, which is currently a parking lot.
What to expect: The 160,000 square foot Novant Health Performance Center will house the team's business and administrative offices for roughly 250 employees.
- About 100,000 square feet of space will be used for training and recovery, including two full-size basketball courts.
- Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine will open a new clinic inside, which will be open to the public.
- There will also be retail.
By the numbers: It will cost more than $150 million to build the facility, CBJ reported. The Hornets are leasing the site from the city for $10 per year.
- The city is contributing $30 million to the practice facility.
What's next: The team is set to begin construction on the facility this week and will hold a formal groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday.
- The team expects to open the facility during the 2026-2027 season.
What we're watching: On the court, the Hornets are second-to-last in the Eastern Conference. They haven't cracked 20 wins this season and haven't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade.
- Off the court, they're under new ownership and playing in an arena that's in the midst of a $245 million facelift.
