The City of Charlotte is considering relocating Uptown's Greyhound bus station to Charlotte Transportation Center, according to public records obtained by Axios.
Why it matters: Charlotte's last attempt to move the Greyhound station sparked some controversy.
Catch up quick: In 2023 Charlotte City Council was set to vote to lease space and bus bays at the University City Boulevard parking deck. However, council member Renee Johnson fought the vote, and it was removed from the agenda, WSOC reported at the time.
Johnson argued the "negative aspects that surround Greyhound stations will outweigh the positive."
Context: Greyhound's current lease expires in August but could be extended. Still, the city must eventually find a new location for when it develops the Charlotte Gateway Station.
Zoom in: A December email between city staff and the North Carolina Department of Transportation revealed the city was running a capacity analysis at CTC and expected to discuss further in January.
"The City is working with Greyhound to identify locations, however, no decision has been made," a city spokesperson confirmed to Axios.
