The Club, a two-story fitness-meets-co-working space in South End, hosts its grand opening Saturday, June 21.
Why it matters: Charlotte has no shortage of fitness studios — and arguably even more coffee shops. But a space that blends the two is, so far, uncommon.
What to expect: At 1200 S Graham St., in the former Frothy Beard Brewing space, The Club is split into two levels.
- The first floor is the co-working space with 30 seats and a full-service coffee bar serving Pertinacious Coffee and a selection of snacks and pastries.
- The bottom level is home to The Club's two fitness studios, lockers, two bathrooms, three showers, a changing room and stocked dry bar.

If you go: There are four signature classes, RIDE: a rhythm-based cycling class, TRAIN: a low-impact weight lifting class, PULSE: a heated sculpt class and STRETCH, a heated stretch class.
- All classes are 45 minutes.
Context: The Club soft-opened last winter. It held cycling classes on the ground level (now the co-working space), while the bottom floor underwent renovations, including the build-out of both studios.

The vibe: With mood lighting and loud beats, the classes will feel more like a nightclub, say Megan Mars and Nicole Paradis, co-owners of The Club.
- The co-working space, on the other hand, will have a coffee shop feel.
Zoom out: The Club is steps away from BathHouse CLT, a contrast therapy studio that's expected to open around the same time this summer.
The big picture: Mars and Paradis say they want The Club to be a place where members can take a class, shower, work for the day or grab coffee with a friend — all under one roof.

What they're saying: "We're huge on community and friendships. Meg and I moved here like two months ago, so we're looking to meet friends, too. We just want to create a space where everyone comes and loves being there," says Paradis.
Flashback: Mars, 29, and Paradis, 27, moved to Charlotte in January from Boston, where they both worked as part-time fitness instructors in addition to full-time remote jobs.
- "We were taking work calls in bathroom stalls and closets at our studio. It was chaos," said Paradis. "That's where the idea for The Club was born."
- They researched different markets and several cities before ultimately choosing Charlotte.

If you go: The Club is open Monday-Friday 6am-7:30pm and Saturday-Sunday 8am-1pm.

Editor's note: The Club has announced that only the top floor will be open during its grand opening on June 21. The bottom floor, which houses the fitness studios, will be closed due to an unforeseen mechanical issue.
