Since JJ's Red Hots' owners announced their upcoming closure, people have been lining up in droves to get one last taste of their dogs.
Axios' Ashley Mahoney stopped by yesterday during lunch and waited 20 minutes between standing in line and receiving her order of JJ's "No. 1." Red hot ($5.99) and loaded chili cheese fries ($5.99).
There was still a line when she left.
Why it matters: This one hits hard for many, as the number of comments on theirΒ goodbye post shows.
Context: JJ's first opened at 1514 East Blvd. nearly 13 years ago.
"We just couldn't shred enough cheddar to keep it going," JJ's posted on Instagram.
If you go: JJ's is open today from 11am-8pm and March 15-16 from 11am-5pm.
What's next: JJ's food truck and catering business will continue to operate.
π My thought bubble: Lining up outside a longtime establishment to give it one last go has become a Charlotte tradition of sorts. The lines outside of JJ's remind me of similar ones outside of Green's and Price's Chicken Coop.
Makes me wonder if these businesses would ever close if they saw that sort of patronage regularly.
