Charlotte's romance bookstore on wheels is getting a permanent home in Plaza Midwood

Trope Bookshop, a romance bookshop on wheels, will open its first storefront in Plaza Midwood on March 1.

Why it matters: Trope Bookshop's expansion reflects a larger trend, with romance bookstores popping up all over the country. Locally, it's a success story for owner Katie Mitchell, who has built a thriving community since the Green Girl, as the bus is affectionately known, hit the road in October 2023.

Driving the news: The Trope Bookshop team is in the process of renovating the space, from installing shelves to painting everything dark green to match the vibe of Green Girl.

Mitchell posted a video of the progress on Instagram recently.

The vibe: The 1,000-square-foot store will be located at 1516 Lyon Court, just off Central Avenue, where Capital Crow Tattoo used to be.

Its interior will be dark and moody, with an English pub-style interior.
Yes, they only sell romance books.

What's next: The Green Girl will still appear at two to three pop-ups a month once the store opens, Mitchell tells Axios.

Between the lines: Trope Bookshop has a book club, which will next meet on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7pm at Resident Culture South End.
