Longtime Duke Energy CEO to retire this spring

Lynn Good will retire as Duke Energy chair and CEO after more than 11 years, the Charlotte-based company announced Monday. Good is also retiring from her board position.
Why it matters: Duke Energy is among the only 10.4% of Fortune 500 companies with a female CEO. While leading Duke Energy, Good has often been considered one of the world's most powerful women in business.
Context: Good has been with Duke Energy for nearly 20 years, and is credited for her innovation and efforts to reduce the company's carbon emissions.
- Her retirement "is not the result of any disagreement regarding any matter relating to the Corporation's operations, policies or practices," the company said in a securities filing Monday.
What's next: Duke Energy's board of directors is promoting 29-year company veteran Harry Sideris to CEO, effective April 1.
- Sideris, who became Duke Energy's president in April 2024, will also join the board of directors. As president, Sideris has led Duke's electric and gas utilities.
- Lead independent director Ted Craver will become independent chair of Duke Energy's board of directors on April 1 as well.
- Duke Energy went through a multiyear "CEO-succession process," Craver said in a statement.
Between the lines: Good was the only female CEO among Charlotte's top 10 highest-paid top execs.
What they're saying: "Duke Energy is in a strong and enviable position and, under Harry's leadership, will surely seize upon the opportunities ahead to deliver for our customers, communities, investors, and other stakeholders," Good said in a statement.
