Briar Creek and Little Hope Creek Greenways have recently opened in south Charlotte.
Why it matters: The new trail segments connect more Charlotteans to Little Sugar Creek Greenway — Mecklenburg County's longest greenway, which spans more than 17 miles from the South Carolina state line toward NoDa.
By the numbers: The project cost $3.7 million, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation leaders tell Axios.
What to expect: The 1.1-mile east-west segment connects Keystone Court to Manning Drive. It runs through Marion Diehl Park and around Queens University of Charlotte's sports complex.
- The paved trail includes five neighborhood connections, two bridges and 350 feet of boardwalk.
Stop by: Park at Marion Diehl Park at 2219 Tyvola Road. Little Hope Creek Greenway will be visible facing west heading toward Keystone Court and east facing the recreation center.
- Go east to head toward Little Sugar Creek Greenway and Briar Creek Greenway. Head east toward the recreation center and eventually around Queens' athletic field.

You can find additional greenway parking at 2524 Tyvola Road, which will connect you to Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Turn left once you reach the bottom of the path from the parking lot onto Little SugarCreek Greenway.
- Then turn left onto Little Hope Creek Greenway toward Keystone Court and Queens' sports complex.
- Or go farther up the trail and turn right onto Briar Creek Greenway (if you go under Park Road before you turn right, you've gone too far).
My thought bubble: One of my favorite parts about Charlotte is its greenways. You can feel the rush of a bustling city one second and the peace in nature the next.
Take a look around.
