Locally owned Hip Hop Smoothies expanding into Airstream at Camp North End

It was all a dream when Hip Hop Smoothies owners Shamika and Roberto Brooks started their first storefront in 2020.
Why it matters: Since then, they've expanded with another storefront and two food trucks. Starting Saturday, Sept. 21, they'll add a vintage Airstream at Camp North End to their list of locations.
What to expect: In addition to smoothies named after the hip-hop songs you'll hear playing through the speakers, the shop offers acai bowls.
- Its Camp North End location will have outdoor seating and old-school hip-hop décor, per a press release.
Zoom in: The Brooks' originally opened Hip Hop Smoothies to provide healthy options for the community, so they don't add any artificial flavor to their smoothies, Axios reported previously.

- Its other locations are 224 E. 7th St. in Uptown and 5800 N. Sharon Amity Road in east Charlotte.
Zoom out: Camp North End is in the midst of an awkward transitionary period. In recent weeks, lots of attention's been on the mixed-used development for a few reasons.
- Last week, one of CNE's first tenants, Pop Bar, closed. That came on the heels of other recent closures like food stalls Saru and Bleau Barn.
- Plus, in a now-deleted viral Instagram post from the bakery Wentworth & Fenn set off a conversation in Charlotte about the health of local small businesses, especially at Camp North End, Axios' Katie Peralta wrote.
- Simultaneously, however, the 76-acre historic site will soon welcome new locally owned tenants like Gravity Sourdough Pizza Co. and Thrift Pony this fall. Plus, it continues to host free events like its weekly outdoor movie series and it recently announced the start of leasing at its residential community Kinship.
