Cancer survivor and Charlotte native Julia Brookshire is preparing to take on the world's oldest open water swim to raise awareness for a clinical cancer trial in celebration of her remission, our news partners at WBTV report.
Context: The Hellespont and Dardanelles Swim, happening on Aug. 30, is the world's oldest open water swim.
The cross-continental swim takes swimmers through the strait of the Dardanelles, from the Asian side of Turkey to the European side of Turkey.
Brookshire's goal was to raise $50K, and she has already surpassed it.
