Oshen, a new sushi restaurant from the group behind Yunta, is now open in south Charlotte.
Why it matters: Oshen is the latest venture from Garcia Hospitality Group, the team behind Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant Yunta, which snagged the top spot on our best restaurants list for 2024.
The vibe: It's a family-friendly, neighborhood sushi spot with approachable prices, co-owner Cinthya Garcia tells Axios.
- Most of the rolls and hot dishes, for example, are around $9-$12. Cocktails range from $12-$16.
Zoom in: Randy and Cinthya Garcia of the Garcia Hospitality Group co-own Yunta and Viva Chicken with chef Bruno Macchiavello.
- Chef Seiya Noborikawa leads the kitchen at Oshen. Noborikawa is a family friend of the Garcias, who previously worked at Nobu in Miami, the acclaimed high-end seafood restaurant famous for its blend of Japanese and Peruvian flavors.

Dig in: The main offerings on Oshen's menu include crudos, tartare, hibachi, sushi, nigiris and a section of hot dishes — like beef dumplings ($9) and yaki udon ($9).

Sip on this: The cocktails, many of which have a beachy flair, use house-made syrups. We ordered the spicy watermelon margarita ($16) and the lychee basil martini ($14).
- A few others include a Tokyo bay sour, a smoked Japanese old fashioned and a hibiscus lemonade with gin.
- There are also mocktails, sake, beer and wine.

What they're saying: The Garcias, who live in the area, said the idea for Oshen came from their wish for a family-friendly spot for sushi in their neck of the woods.
- The couple also owns the TCBY in Colony Place and they're trying to open more restaurants together.
Stop by: Find Oshen at 7741 Colony Road, in the Colony Place shopping center, between the Arboretum and SouthPark.
- It's open Sunday-Thursday 11am-9pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm — closed Monday.
