Fred Alexander Park, a six-acre park in west Charlotte, has reopened after significant renovations.
What to expect: The park includes new outdoor workout equipment, game tables and a pump track. There are also swings and a half basketball court in addition to the existing playground and full court.
Stop by: You'll find Fred Alexander Park at 1832 Griers Grove Rd. Park and Rec will host a reopening celebration today from 5-7pm.
There will be backpack and helmet giveaways, pump track demonstrations and food trucks.
By the numbers: Roughly$680,000 was spent on park improvements, per a county spokesperson.
Zoom out: Fred Alexander Park was named for local civil rights leader Frederick Douglas Alexander, Charlotte's first Black City Council member.
The other nine parks are Enderly Park, Tryon Hills Park, Devonshire Park, LC Coleman Park, Harrisburg Road Park, Viewmont Park, Grayson Park, Amay James Park and Albemarle Road Park.
