Bank of America Stadium was a shaking sea of yellow for the Copa America semifinal between Colombia and Uruguay last night.
Catch up quick: 70,644 fans watched Colombia win 1-0 and even more gathered outside the stadium to cheer on their respective countries. After the match, a fight broke out between Uruguay players and Colombia fans. The fight was eventually broken up.
Uruguay's players said afterward the brawl broke out because their families were harassed and being "avalanched" by Colombia fans, as Fabian Renkel reported.
Some players criticized security at the stadium, adding, "This is a disaster. Our families are in danger," Renkel reported.
What's next: Uruguaywill play Canada in the third-place match at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday at 8pm.
My thought bubble: It's an electric experience every time Charlotte hosts an international tournament, but last night was unlike anything the city has seen. It makes you wonder what it would be like if Charlotte hosted a World Cup match.
