A new indoor gaming venue in east Charlotte puts you in a virtual reality.
Catch up quick: Activate, which features interactive technology for an immersive gaming experience, recently opened at 1848 Galleria Blvd, Suite 9B.
- The company has 20 locations nationwide in cities like Houston, Chicago and Atlanta.
Here are five things to know before you go:
Plan to come with friends.
You can play in groups of two or up to five players as a team or compete against each other. When you arrive you'll get an electronic wristband that'll let you rack up points and enter new levels.

Be prepared to break a sweat.
Wear activewear and flat, closed-toe shoes so you're comfortable as you play. You can store additional items in a personal locker that you can access with your wristband.
Bring your A-game.
There are at least 11 game rooms. Some rooms challenge your ability to problem-solve while others push you to get active. Activate is known for its mega grid game room, which has 500+ multi-activated rainbow-colored tiles.
Details about other games:
- "Strike" has a beaming bullseye you'll want to avoid so you'll want to be skilled in multitasking.
- The "Portals" game is designed to challenge your attention to detail.
- "Hoops" is a basketball option that can be combined with trivia.
- The laser room will make you feel like a modern-day spy.

Pace yourself.
It's easy to get carried away in every game when you're having fun — but remember you get 75 minutes to play. Each game has 10 levels which last 1-3 minutes.

Book in advance if you decide to go.
You must complete a waiver before you play. It costs $24.99 per player Monday through Thursday and $29.99 Friday through Sunday. Reserve a spot here.
- It's open Sunday through Thursday 9:30am-10:00pm, Friday and Saturday 9:30am-11:00pm.
