A nonprofit coffee shop and bakery called Cakeable Cafe is opening its first brick-and-mortar shop in Uptown soon.

Why it matters: Cakeable Cafe offers vocational training and job opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The vibe: The cafe will sell baked goods, plus hot and iced drinks (like lattes, cappuccinos, mochas and teas).

  • The 1,200-square-foot space has 14 seats inside and a small area with outdoor seating.

Stop by: Cakeable Cafe will open at 401 North Tryon St., about a block away from Discovery Place Science and Duckworth's.

  • Its hours will be 7am to 4pm Monday through Friday and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
