6 turkey trot runs in the Charlotte area on Thanksgiving Day

We’re cutting it close, but there’s still time to register for one of the many turkey trots in the Charlotte area.

Of note: The races listed below are all on Thanksgiving Day — Nov. 23. Most include a fun run and/or a kids’ event and most donate at least a portion of their registration fees to charities. Prices vary.

• A 5K is 3.1 miles, an 8K is 5 miles and a 10K is 6.2 miles.

CPI Security Charlotte Turkey Trot: This is the 35th year of the 8K run, which goes through the SouthPark area. The 8K starts at 8:10am at SouthPark mall and the 5K starts at 9:10am. Details.

• Fun fact: This is the largest road race in North Carolina, with about 9,000 runners.

Davidson Turkey Trot: The 5K race begins at 8am near the Davidson Village Green. Details.

University City Turkey Trot: The 10th annual 5K run and walk starts at 8am. It begins at 3024 Prosperity Church Road. After the race, there’s a mini feast featuring food, drinks, games and music. Details.

Turkey Dash Charlotte: The 4-mile run/walk begins at 8:30am at Village at Robinson Farm (8410 Rea Road). Details.

The Turkey Trot at Millbridge: The 5K race begins at 8am at 1401 Millbridge Parkway in Waxhaw. Details.

Lake Norman Turkey Trot: The 17th annual race in Cornelius includes a 10K (7:45am) and 5K (8:45am) and a “distance dare” in which you would run both the 5K and the 10K. It starts and finishes at Life Fellowship Church located at 20010 Chartown Dr. Details.
