New renderings: Pickleball courts are coming to Uptown

What’s happening: The fitness and wellness center, located in the 40-story One South office tower at the corner of Trade & Tryon streets, will be renamed One Athletics.

• It will close for upgrades starting in November.
• Renovations are expected to be done by the end of the year.

Why it matters: It was a matter of time before the pickleball craze hit Uptown, after expanding into LoSo and possibly near NoDa. Plus, center city office towers could use a little extra something to compete with the perks of working from home.

Details: The 30,000-square-foot facility’s renovations include:

• A refurbished basketball court that can be converted into a pickleball court.
• A permanent pickleball court with space to hang out and watch people play.
• Renovated locker rooms with keyless entry lockers, upgraded showers and towel service.
• New strength and cardio equipment from Precor, TRX, Dynamic, FreeMotion, Woodway and Peloton.

One Athletics will also offer yoga, pilates, strength and personal training classes, plus digital content.

• You’ll be able to reserve courts and classes through Onsite, One South’s hospitality management and technology platform.

Of note: One South tenants will receive discounted membership pricing at One Athletics. Exact pricing for classes and memberships is to be determined, a One Athletics spokesperson tells Axios.

Zoom out: One South recently renovated its 22,000-square-foot third floor for $7 million. The third floor houses the tower’s tenant amenities. It was designed by Gensler and is managed by Onsite.
