If you’re on the hunt for an apartment, right now might be the time to catch some deals.
Zoom out: Nationwide rent growth is decelerating as sluggish demand collides with a strong incoming supply of new apartments, according to Apartment List.
Why it matters: Newly constructed apartments are sprouting up all over in Charlotte — but these properties don’t always fill up as quickly as they are being built.
- Locally, the vacancy rate stands at 8.5%, up 2.8 percentage points from this time last year, per Apartment List.
Bottomline: Property owners may have to compete with a smaller pool of tenants, similar to the early part of the pandemic. One way to entice apartment hunters is through move-in specials.
- In 2020, there were at least 23 apartments offering up to two months of free rent. Now we’re seeing similar deals.
