The popular doughnut pop-up Beyond Amazing Donuts (B.A.D for short) will open its permanent home off of Montford Drive on Saturday, July 29.

The grand opening starts at 8am.

Context: Known for its unique flavors, B.A.D often sells out of its pop-ups at Hex Coffee in Camp North End and The Market at 7th St. in Uptown.

Why it matters: B.A.D’s brick-and-mortar has been a long time coming and highly anticipated. Its owner and chef, Jasmine “Jazz” Macon, was the former pastry chef at Leah & Louise.

Catch up quick: B.A.D was one of the four Black-owned businesses that was supposed to open in Camp North End, but recently announced they wouldn’t be opening because of the “changing economic climate,” according to a representative from the BayHaven Restaurant Group.

What to expect: Macon, a big comic book and anime fan, says there’ll be six staple flavors on the menu, named after characters she created, plus four seasonal flavors that will be “inspired by North Carolina agriculture.”

  • The space is about 1,400-1,500 square feet, which she’s still designing, and is looking for input from the community. “I really want people to kind of help me figure out how to best conceptualize this space,” she says, adding that she wants the space to be community-centered, similar to Archive in west Charlotte.
  • “My goal is to invoke the feeling of community, the human experience and connection,” she wrote on Instagram. She also added that you have an idea for a mural, know of a grant she can apply for, or just have an idea for the space you can send her an email at: [email protected].

Details: B.A.D is located at 1730 Abbey Pl. and will be open from 7am-3pm (or until they sell out) Wednesday through Friday, and 8am-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
