One adult endured non-life-threatening injuries to the arm after a shooting at Julius L. Chambers High School Tuesday afternoon.
What we know: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is investigating the incident at the northeast school’s campus. An altercation between two contracted workers escalated to shots fired around 2:30pm, according to the department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
- CMS says the two workers were making repairs to the track when they got in a fight and one of the men shot the other in the arm. The shooter left the campus and contacted police. The victim drove himself to the hospital.
- Brent Wall, 22, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm on school grounds and possession of a firearm on school grounds.
Of note: School is out for summer. However, the campus still went into a modified lockdown as students trying out for the football team started arriving on campus about an hour after the incident, according to a message sent to families.
- “The students are being held in the gym and may be allowed to do an indoor workout,” the message stated. “Outdoor tryouts at the track near the football field have been canceled for the day.”
What they’re saying: “Let me say again that all staff and students are safe and unharmed,” the principal wrote in the message.
