Best use of color: An eclectic Eastover home makeover

Our pick for best use of color is what I call a jewelry box house. Each room inside feels like its own hue-soaked treasure, brilliantly layered in beautiful patterns, textures and, of course, colors.

The house: At 3,829 square feet, the Eastover home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms.

Design: This home’s style is best described as layered, transitional and livable – the latter being a must with a family of five, plus a golden retriever. They moved to Charlotte from New York after COVID, and called on Charlotte Lucas Design to make their new house feel like home.

The goal was to make the house livable, comfortable and durable to withstand the kids, but lovely enough for frequent hosting.
The house, complete with plenty of pattern and color, in true Charlotte Lucas form, is a wonderful reflection of this young, vibrant family with nods to their time in NYC and family travels.

Best features: The dining, entry and living room are the first three spaces you see upon entering and they set the tone with impactful wallpaper, paint and patterned upholstery.

In the office, they used a whimsical Schumacher fabric in lieu of wallpaper to bring warmth and texture to the space that actually makes you want to sit down and work.

There’s a wet bar between the kitchen and dining room which features matchbook art from places near and dear to the owners’ hearts.
The screened-in porch, complete with plenty of wicker furniture, is a nod to the South, welcoming these New Yorkers to the Queen City and encouraging that sense of Southern hospitality in their frequent entertaining.
