Your Mom’s Donuts reopens in Park Road Shopping Center

State of play: Earlier this year, Dustin and Colleen Wanemacher purchased the business from Courtney Ahern, who started Your Mom’s Donuts in 2013. Ahern closed the popular doughnut shop in February due to the pressure of inflation and to spend more time with her family, as Axios previously reported.

Why it matters: Small businesses are struggling in a developing city where the cost of nearly everything is soaring. But some, like Your Mom’s, have found fresh ways to stay afloat.

• The new owners have retained staff, from the general manager to the lead baker, meaning people get to keep their jobs and customers get the same product.

Details: The Park Road Shopping Center location (4205 Park Road, right across from Blackhawk Hardware) is open from 8am until noon Wednesday through Sunday or until sold out. Flavors include salted caramel ($3.50), lemon honey ($3.50), vanilla sprinkles ($3.50) and very berry ($4).

• The Matthews location (11025 Monroe Road) is now open for takeout, serving milk chocolate, dark chocolate, plain glaze, maple, cinnamon sugar and vanilla bean doughnuts.
• Current hours in Matthews are Wednesday through Saturday from 7am until 2pm and Sunday from 8am until 2pm or until sold out.
• You can also find them at the Davidson Farmers Market (120 S. Main St.) from 9am until noon every Saturday and at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market (1801 Yorkmont Road) every Friday and Sunday in the greenery shed.

• The Wanemachers come from corporate backgrounds. Colleen will remain with her job at Spectrum Brands, and Dustin will oversee Your Mom’s Donuts’ day-to-day operations full time.

What’s next: The Matthews dining room is undergoing renovations, the Wanemachers tell Axios, and they hope to reopen soon.

• You can currently place online orders for the Matthews location, and soon you’ll be able to do the same at Park Road.
