The Charlotte Knights’ Paper Mill Pub opens Tuesday, May 16.

Catch up quick: Work began on the year-round pub at Truist Field in January.

Why it matters: Truist Field is much more than a ballpark. It’s a destination — it hosts everything from minor league baseball and college games with skyline views to a seasonal winter wonderland and, as was recently announced, outdoor hockey. A pub gives people another (non-baseball) reason to visit.

  • More than five million people have visited the ballpark since it opened in 2014.

Details: The two-story pub includes an outdoor patio and an inside bar with sliding windows. It has a capacity of 125 people and opens daily at noon.

  • Pro Sports Catering, the Knights’ food and beverage partner, will oversee all food and drinks for the pub from permanently installed food trucks.
  • Rodgers Builders is the general contractor on the project and O’Dell – A LaBella Company is the architect.

Menu: Drinks include classics like a Negroni ($12) and a sidecar ($14), plus signature drinks like the last of the Oaxacans (smokey mezcal mixed with marching liquor and green chartreuse; $15). They also serve canned and draft beers, non-alcoholic beers, seltzers and  wines.

  • Pub food includes staples like wings ($12), loaded tots ($9), ballpark dog ($4.50) and pub burger sliders ($13) mini red velvet cake ($5) and a chocolate chip brownie ($4). Check out the full menu here.

Of note: Dogs are allowed on the outside patio, but not inside the pub. The pub accepts cash and card. You may enter the ballpark from the pub, but you must have a ticket to the game.

Context: The pub’s name honors the Virginia Paper Company building, which called the site home long before Truist Field was there.

What they’re saying: “After several brainstorming sessions, we felt that the pub should represent a historical connection to the Queen City,” Knights Chief operating officer Dan Rajkowski said in a statement. “Since the Virginia Paper Company occupied the northern parcel of the site since 1937, we decided on Paper Mill Pub as the name to our new addition at Truist Field.”
