6 Charlotte businesses at the Wells Fargo Championship

What’s happening: The PGA Tour event will include a small business market featuring nine businesses based in North and South Carolina, six of which call Charlotte home.

Why it matters: Charlotte had golf fever last September when it hosted the Presidents Cup. The Wells Fargo Championship relocated to Washington, D.C. for a year in preparation for the Presidents Cup.

• Now, local businesses are eager to have a presence at one of Charlotte’s most popular annual sporting events.

Between the lines: Netflix’s docuseries “Full Swing” put golf in the spotlight for casual fans.

Of note: National Small Business Week coincides with the tournament.

Details: The tournament runs May 1-7 at Quail Hollow Club. You’ll be able to purchase women’s golf apparel from Byrdie Golf Social Wear and tacos from El Toro Bruto, which was also a vendor at the Presidents Cup last year.

• The small business market will be located next to the merchandise tent near the driving range at the tournament.

Charlotte

Byrdie Golf Social Wear’s head-to-toe golf gear is designed to take customers from the course to cocktail hour, as Axios’ Laura Barrero wrote.

Of note: Byrdie collaborated with handbag brand J. Lowrey to create an exclusive Byrdie Tournament Bag. The bag is small enough for sporting events, like the Wells Fargo Championship, Byrdie co-founder Rachelle Wates tells Axios. 

Dupp&Swat, a creative studio fostering Black innovators, released four new shirt designs (three T-shirts and one polo) for the tournament, while also keeping Charlotte front and center.

• All four shirts say some variation of 704, a nod to Charlotte’s area code. The four was replaced with fore, which people yell as a warning on the golf course when their ball is heading in someone’s direction.
• The shirts were printed at MacFly Fresh Printing Co., which is also based at Camp North End. The T-Shirts cost $37 each and the polo costs $50.

El Toro Bruto went from a popular taco pop-up to a permanent spot inside of Resident Culture South End. 

Manolo’s Latin Bakery is known for serving delicious treats.

Phoozy creates insulated and weatherproof protection for everything from your phone to your drink on the golf course. You may recognize the company from their appearance on Shark Tank Season 12.

The Vintage Goat is a beverage truck serving wine, cold brew coffee, craft cocktails, beer, tea, soda, lemonade and Prosecco.

Bear Food, a local nut company, donates a portion of every order to Rainbow Express Ministries, which supports young adults with disabilities.

Rock Hill, SC

Knowledge Perk is a small batch roastery that sources its coffee through direct trade and an importer with fair trade and organic certifications.

Cary, NC
