Alive After Five is back … kind of

Symphony Park

Symphony Park SouthPark

If you’ve lived and worked in Charlotte for a while, you may remember the hoards of beer-drinking banker bros who’d descend onto South Tryon for Alive After Five, an after-work party and concert series previously held in Uptown.

What’s happening: After a four-year hiatus, Alive After Five is coming back. It’ll now be at SouthPark’s Symphony Park, a 7.5-acre green space anchored by a circular bandshell next to the mall.

Why it matters: For years, Alive After Five was the place to be. Back when it was at its original spot at 2 Wachovia Center (now 2 Wells Fargo Center), Alive After Five drew 3,000 to 4,000 attendees a week, as the Observer reported.

Details: SouthPark After Five, as the event is now called, is coming back for a limited run — it’ll happen from 5-9pm every Thursday, April 20-May 25, according to the group SouthPark Community Partners.

  • The event is free, and it’s family- and dog-friendly.
  • You can bring a picnic blanket and chairs, just like you would if you were watching any other concert at Symphony Park.
  • You can park at SouthPark mall.
  • More info is available here.

Yes, but: There are no plans to continue SouthPark After Five into the summer, especially since Symphony in the Park will take place at Symphony Park, according to Maddie Chase, SouthPark Community Partners’ director of marketing and experience.

“We are interested in fall programming but are not sure what it will look like, yet,” Chase told Axios.
