This north Charlotte home boasts a boho chic style and a range of bold colors.
Background: R&R Interior Design was founded by Robin and Regina Reaves, a married couple of 14 years who met in a home decor store in Concord. They realized they had a shared love for design — and each other.
- Robin, a realtor, and Regina, who has a background in property management, have worked together for years. Their early work dates back to when they designed their college apartment on a budget with Dollar Tree items.
- The Reaveses attribute their longstanding relationship and careers to balancing communication and compromise — two skills they often focus on with clients.
Take a look inside this north Charlotte home that Robin and Regina recently designed.

The design: The Reaves’ clients hoped to focus on the first floor of their newly built home since that was where they’d spend most of their time.
- The Reaves aimed to clearly define each space of the first floor by positioning furniture symmetrically in areas like the dinning and living room
- “Without the furniture being properly placed or building a focal wall, your eyes go everywhere,” Robin said.

Inspiration: The designers decided to be playful with their use of color to approach the boho style in a modern way.
- They used pops of vibrant colors like orange and purple to brighten up the space. Darker colors, meanwhile, kept the area looking sophisticated.
- They wanted to be intentional with the color so the area would still feel mature.

Entertaining: The Reaveses provided extra seating to facilitate hosting gatherings.
- Additional chairs that can be tucked away allow the area to breathe when it’s not being used.
- The new built-in entertainment wall includes an electric fireplace with a layered mixture of wood, metal and gold.

The kitchen: With a little paint, gold finishings and patterned backsplashes, Robin and Regina transformed a plain builder-grade kitchen into a warm space.
- A gray tile chevron backsplash, wooden chevron paneling and navy cabinetry were a added to elevate the room.

Wall decor: All of the pieces on the wall were custom-framed and lighted.
- The designers used soulful African portraits and artwork that have become conversation starters.
- “When people walk through it’s like literally like walking through an exhibit,” Robin said.

Bonus: The bathroom, a last-minute renovation, became an area where a little went a long way.
- They incorporated several small details — including lots of plants and sunflowers — into the design.
- “The small things have the biggest impact. It was the details that (the clients) enjoyed more than anything,” Regina said.
