Cirque du Biere combines aerial arts and Charlotte’s favorite pastime — drinking beer

Cirque du Biere is an aerial arts performance at Hi-Wire Brewing in South End.

Context: Local influencer Mel Fox of Work For Your Beer is behind the event and says she hopes to repeat it every two months.

  • January’s performance, which sold out, was “emo night” themed. The upcoming event (Friday, March 3) will have a “pop princess” theme.
  • Each themed performance will benefit a different nonprofit. This one, for example, will benefit Planned Parenthood, “in honor of International Women’s Day,” Fox tells Axios.

How it works: $1 from each ticket sold, plus sales from the Lyra Lager on tap and from the non-alcoholic slushie at the brewery, will be donated to Planned Parenthood.

  • In the first act, the group of aerialists will perform a choreographed piece to a pop princess song of their choice. After a brief intermission, the aerialists will improv to your song requests.

Details: They added 50 more seats for a total of 250 seats after selling out the first event, Cirque du Biere.

  • Tickets to Friday’s event are $20. It starts at 7pm.

What’s next: The following event will be Friday, May 12, at 7pm and will benefit the Charlotte Gaymer’s Network.

Our thought bubble:It’s not your typical chill brewery environment — but it was super fun, interactive and makes for some high-energy Friday night plans if that’s the vibe you’re going for,” Axios’ McKenzie Rankin said after the first event.
