Science on the Rocks returns to Discovery Place this month after a three-year hiatus.
Back for the first time since January 2020, Science on the Rocks kicks off Jan. 27 from 6-10pm with “an evening of entertainment, music, a cash bar and stimulating experiences,” according to the museum’s website.
Here are five things to know before you go:
(1) It’s an adults-only event.
Call the babysitter. Science on the Rocks is not for kids. You have to be 21+ to get in, given that booze is a big part of the night.
Of note: Don’t forget your I.D. You’ll need it at the door.
(2) It’ll be different this time around.
For one, musical entertainment is new for Science on the Rocks, said director of communications Sarah Wheat.
- Guests can also expect live science shows and adult-appropriate experiences in the learning labs.
Discovery Place is waiting to release additional information on these events, but the museum promises they’ve “reinvented Science on the Rocks to provide a better guest experience,” the website reads.
(3) You have to buy tickets online.
Tickets are $22 for general admission. If you’re a Discovery Place member, you can snag one for $18.
What’s included: Full access to Discovery Place Science in a kids-free environment.
- Plus, Jan. 27 attendees get a first look at the museum’s new traveling exhibit, Top Secret: License to Spy.
What’s not: Parking. But for $6, you can park in the Discovery Place deck at 220 W. 6th St.
(4) There’ll be movies showing in IMAX.
For an extra $6, you can watch Planetarium: Edge of Darkness.
(5) Science on the Rocks is a monthly series.
If you can’t make it to opening night, don’t worry. There’s more Science on the Rocks coming in 2023.
Of note: The schedule for the rest of the year hasn’t been released yet.
