Museum of Illusions, an international museum franchise, will open its doors on Friday, Dec. 9, at 10am in Uptown’s Ally Center.

What to Expect: The Museum of Illusions will feature more than 60 interactive exhibits that play different visual tricks on your mind. You’ll find holograms, optical illusions and plenty of Insta-friendly exhibits.

The illusions will be explained, too. You’ll learn the science behind how they achieve their effect.

  • Expect it to take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to walk through the exhibit.

Zoom out: Museum of Illusions started in Croatia in 2015. There are now more than 30 locations already open and in the works around the world.

  • You can find all of their locations here.
  • Fun fact: Charlotte is the largest of all Museum of Illusions’ U.S. locations.

My thought bubble: Blending in-person experiences with Instagrammable opportunities isn’t new in Charlotte.

  • From temporary events like the annual Jingle City holiday pop-up bar and Immersive Van Gogh, to local businesses like Gussy, there’s been a concerted effort to design activities with built-in photo-worthy moments.

How it works: Visitors can purchase tickets for their chosen time and date through the museum’s website. Prices are $20 for children, $24 for adults and $22 for seniors.

  • The Museum of Illusions will be open seven days a week with time slots starting at 10am.

The museum is located at 601 S. Tryon St. (inside the Ally Center). There’s no parking associated with the museum, but visitors can take the light rail, use street parking or park in the Ally Center parking deck at 122 E. Brooklyn Village Ave.
