Charlotte Hornets will finally wear CLT

Why it matters: The NBA’s CHA designation for the Hornets has long gotten under fans’ skin. This is the first time CLT is appearing on the front of the jersey.

Context: CLT is trademarked by AVIATE, which also has the trademark to several other airport codes and sells merchandise with these codes. But they worked out a deal for the Hornets to use CLT for this season, Hornets chief marketing officer Seth Bennett told Axios.

Details: The City Edition uniform, the fourth and final uniform for the Hornets this season, includes a buzz city logo and a Queen Charlotte rendering on the lower left side of the jersey. There is also a No. 6 patch above the Jumpman logo in memory of NBA legend Bill Russell.

• The mint, gold and granite color scheme is a nod to Charlotte’s gold mining history.
• Jerseys go on sale Nov. 10 at 11am in the fan shop.
• The team is also bringing back the 2020-21 City Edition court to accompany the uniform, which they’ll wear 10 times at home and nine times on the road, starting at home on Nov. 25 against the Timberwolves.
•  The Hornets are selling a “Minted Matchups” plans for the 10 home games, starting at $29 per game.
