“Charlotte, look what y’all gave me,” Lizzo said as the crowd cheered.
“Everybody, if you know you know I’ll be running away from motherf—king hornets and bees, but I like this jersey,” she continued while rocking a new custom-made, Hornets jersey.
Why it matters: The designer behind Lizzo’s custom Hornets jersey is Charlotte local Lisa Danielle Wright. She goes by Lisa Danielle and her clothing company is DaniLi Apparel.
Details: Wright describes DaniLi Apparel as “creative, confident conscious clothing.”
- You’ll find upcycled and vintage pieces on her site but she also does custom pieces — from pageant gowns to everyday sets.
- All of her designs are unique and made from upcycled material. “You won’t find it anywhere else,” she said.

Flashback: Wright, originally from Brooklyn, has lived in Charlotte for about a decade. She went to college in Greensboro and has called North Carolina home ever since.
- She’s always been creative and began designing clothes at a young age out of need. “We grew up poor,” she said. “So for us to have what we wanted or needed, we had to make it.”
- Six years ago, Wright turned her side hustle into a full-time gig; she left her job at a Big Four accounting firm and has never looked back.

Zoom out: Lizzo isn’t the first celebrity Wright has created a custom design for. You can find her fashion on the celebrities like Bad Bunny and Carolina Panthers’ player Shaq Thompson.
How it happened: One of Wright’s clients attended an event wearing a custom DaniLi Apparel design and caught the attention of a marketing director at the Spectrum Center.
- She passed along Wright’s contact info and soon after they asked her to make a gift for Bad Bunny.
- “I made a Ric Flair-inspired robe and a denim jacket … out of broken mirror pieces,” Wright said.
- The same happened ahead of Lizzo’s performance. Wright was asked to create a gift for the performer. “We weren’t expecting her to wear it,” Wright said, “but she literally was just kind of like ‘this is what I want to wear tonight.'”

My thought bubble: It looks like Lizzo had a great time in Charlotte! Aside from the jersey, she had a memorable meal from Oh My Soul and convinced 20,000 people to do a TikTok with her.
