Lucky for us, we don’t have to go far to find good food in Charlotte.
Here are six of the best dishes our Axios Charlotte team ate in September, listed in no particular order.
1. Shrimp tacos from Mi Pueblo
Mi Pueblo is the perfect lunch spot after a morning of running errands. I went for the shrimp tacos. It sits right next to IKEA in University City, which is where we spent the morning picking out frames for our DIY mirror wall. — Ashley Mahoney, reporter

2. Everything bagel with lox from Good Wurst
Good Wurst always hits the spot when we’re looking for a quick and delicious weekend takeout breakfast. I recently got the everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomato, red onion and capers ($11.95). Good Wurst’s bagels are Montreal-style, meaning they’re smaller and denser than typical bagels. Maybe controversial but I’d call them the best bagels in Charlotte. — Katie Peralta Soloff, editor

3. Brick oven roasted chicken at Southern Pecan
As a southern gal, I’m always in the mood for soul food and the meals we had added the comfort that speaks to your soul. In so many ways it felt like an elevated soul food Sunday dinner experience during a Friday date night. — Alexis Clinton, reporter

4. Build your own bowl at Rico’s Açaí
Açaí bowls are the perfect meal after a workout, in my opinion. More sustenance than a smoothie but still healthy. Although, I don’t know how healthy a fruit bowl lathered in Nutella actually is, ha! — Laura Barrero, reporter
Location: 917 Pecan Ave.

5. Sushi from Blue Orchid Sushi & Asian Bistro
This restaurant in an unassuming shopping center off South Tryon has some of the best sushi I’ve had in Charlotte. The Krusty Krab roll, with shrimp tempura, avocado and cream cheese and topped with crab stick tempura and scallions, is covered in a delicious sweet aioli and triple sauce that melts in your mouth. The sweetness of the mango in the Tropicana roll balanced nicely with the shrimp tempura, avocado and imitation crab, as did the sweet soy sauce it is coated in. — Danielle Chemtob, investigative reporter

6. Chizu ramen from Futo Buta
I’m embarrassed to say I hadn’t tried Futo Buta until recently. For my inaugural visit I went with the Chizu ramen made with chicken broth, pecorino cheese, whipped egg, shiso pesto, yuzu, black garlic and scallions. The soul-warming dish was $14, and I had plenty of leftovers. If for some reason you’ve held off visiting, cooler weather is the perfect occasion.” — Bri Crane, associate editor
