Providence Group Capital is developing an eight-story project called The Rudisill in Wilmore at 1501 S. Mint St.

What’s happening: The eight-story building will include two underground levels for parking. The first floor will house parking and retail, while the remaining seven floors will be either office, apartments or a hotel.

  • ODA Architecture is the architect on the project.

Why it matters: Providence Group Capital purchased four sites in the South End area earlier this month, and with that another wave of development sweeps across the South End/Wilmore area.

Flashback: The project name pays homage to the Rudisill gold mine near the site.

There were 700 gold mines in the Carolinas. The Rudisill and the St. Catherine, near Morehead and Graham streets, were among the most prominent.

The city’s mines brought the U.S. Treasury to place a branch of the federal mint in Charlotte in 1835, which led to Charlotte establishing itself as a banking town

What’s next: They have not laid out a timeline for the project.
