Tis the season for spring cleaning.
If you’re like me in clearing out your closet and/or changing up furniture in some rooms, you may be interested in re-homing some of your gently used goods, instead of throwing them out.
We’ve rounded up a handful of resources in the Charlotte area that accept clothing, furniture and other home goods. Here are four places to donate your items.
1. Lydia’s Loft
I recently took a stack of formal dresses, including several old bridesmaids’ dresses, to Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet in Huntersville. Lydia’s Loft accepts donations of all sorts of clothing, blankets, accessories, shoes and formal attire for men and women. Learn more here.
Location: 14835 N. Old Statesville Road
2. Salvation Army
At its various locations around Charlotte, Salvation Army accepts donations of clothing, furniture, cars, household goods and appliances.
Location: The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center is located at 1011 Central Ave.
- You can find other store and drop box locations on their website, and you can schedule donation pickups, too.
3. Beds for Kids

Beds for Kids, which has a warehouse off South Boulevard, collects beds and other furniture for Charlotte families. The staff there is friendly and will gladly help unload bulky items from your car into the warehouse.
Location: 4200 Barringer Drive.
4. Goodwill
Goodwill accepts all sorts of goods — including clothing, shoes, books, home decor, furniture and small appliances, among other items — at both their drop-off locations and at any of their retail stores.
- Their website also has a list of items they do not accept — from mattresses to non-flat-screen TVs.
Here’s a list of Goodwill’s drop-off locations:
- Ballantyne — 9121 Bryant Farms Road
- Mint Museum area — 2721 Randolph Road
- SouthPark mall — 6231 Fairview Road
- Habitat Restore Shopping Center — 1133 Wendover Road
