Amélie’s French Bakery is headed to a Plaza Midwood space familiar with bread.

The Charlotte bakery will launch a wholesale artisan bread kitchen at 1511 Central Ave. this month.

Details: Lead bread maker, Joseph Feliz will guide the team. Jamie Prentiss, former Nova’s Bakery business development director, will oversee the wholesale side of the bakery. Amélie’s plans to offer retail bread service in all of its existing bakeries by the end of the year. It currently offers bread service to hospitality, hotel and retail brands.

The new space is only wholesale at present.

The Plaza Midwood space includes a vacant storefront, and they are working on concepts for it.

Wholesale breads to look for:

  • Asiago and black pepper
  • Baguettes
  • Cranberry pecan
  • Herb focaccia
  • Roasted garlic and thyme potato
  • Rosemary and kalamata olive
  • Sourdough

What they’re saying: “I am very excited to be bringing to Charlotte the high-quality European style breads I have spent a career making,” Feliz said in a statement. “This is going to be fun.”

Between the lines: The address should sound familiar. It’s the former home of Nova’s Bakery, which included 1509 and 1511 Central Ave.

  • Marble Slab Creamery opened at 1509 Central Ave. last July, Axios’ Emma Way reported. It was a special moment for local franchise owner Ryan Griffith, because of his friendship with the former Nova’s Bakery owners.

What they’re saying: “When the folks at Nova’s Bakery retired, we were fortunate to be in a position to buy most of their bread making equipment and rent the space from them,” Amélie’s co-owner and CEO Frank Reed said in a statement. “We have completely renovated the bakery and equipment and are ready to go.”
