If you’ve ever seen Katrina Hutchins events on Instagram, her house is just as thoughtfully done and colorful as her parties.

The charming blue and white 1930s Myers Park cottage is quirky and loaded with style, but still feels cozy.

Who: Katrina Hutchins is a luxury event planner who moved to Charlotte with her husband Hutch. They have two boys, Callahan and Row, and a King Charles Cavalier puppy named Harry.

Hutchins said neighbors stroll by with stories about the house all the time, from knowing the old owners to playing at the house as kids. “The quirks of the old layout make it feel homey.”

Layout: It’s 3,074 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Most recently they added an outdoor living area with a fireplace and covered porch. (And it’s where they spend the most time.)

Most ridiculous purchase: A 1970s vintage Italian Venetian Murano chandelier that now hangs in her dining room. They cost anywhere from $6,000-$30,000. It’s the one item that’ll always be in their home.

Art: Hutchins says art is the No. 1 thing people ask her about on Instagram. Some of her favorite pieces include a giant gummy bear sculpture by Charleston artist Olivia Bonilla and pieces she’s purchased from local artists via The Art Salon.

Her latest art purchase is a felt RBG portrait by Sam Sidney. “She hangs in our powder room so you can be ‘judged’ with your pants down,” Hutchins said.

Philosophy: Hutchins says decorating your home shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It’s a place to fill with things that make you happy and remind you of people you love. For example, she has a trio of breast paintings by Elaine Burge in her entry hall that are a cheeky way to honor the breast cancer survivors in her life. And two sets of china hanging on her dining walls, each from her grandmothers.

Style: “Lived-in chic” and playful with lots of pattern, color and texture. “I wanted our home to be comfortable and functional, being a family of four with two small boys but still beautiful,” Hutchins said.

Kids rooms: The boys’ rooms feature patterned wallpaper by House of Harris, custom drapery and beds, and fun pops of color. One room even has a nook with room for toys and reading.
