New Japanese restaurant called Konnichiwa is now open in Dilworth

What to expect: The head sushi chef hopes to introduce more people to sushi and Japanese culture through his innovative and customizable dishes. Chef I Putu Surya, or “Su” for short, says he likes to freestyle his sushi sometimes.

With 10 years of experience, Chef Su wants to create different flavors and textures not only with his sushi dishes, but with other menu items, too, like the blue point oysters topped with caviar and uni.

Menu: The menu has a variety of sushi rolls, including a few Charlotte-inspired ones like the Queen Roll, CLT Roll and Hornets Roll, along with more traditional rolls.

• Other menu offerings include small plates like the dynamite shrimp and hibachi bowls.
• Su also plans on serving rotating specials that will incorporate seasonal ingredients.
• Wine and beer will be served pending liquor license approval.

The space has an open-air vibe with three large garage doors that open the main dining area to East Boulevard. There’s also a spacious sushi bar inside.

Location/hours: Konnichiwa is located at 1315 East Blvd., Ste. 130. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 11am-9:30pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am-10pm, and Sunday from 12-9pm.
