Superica’s second Charlotte location will open November 16 in Strawberry Hill.

Taco pop-up: Ahead of its opening, Superica will host a breakfast taco pop-up event on Sunday, November 8. They’ll give out one free breakfast taco per person, served migas style (with chorizo, bacon & vegetarian) from 9 to 11 a.m. You’ll also get a first look at the new space.

Background: The Austin-based Tex-Mex restaurant by chef Ford Fry quickly became a favorite in South End’s Design Center after its opening in 2018, serving over 3,000 guests in its first week.

Superica is known for its tacos, margaritas, and queso fundido (the king of cheese pulls), which you can also expect at its new location.

The 5,900-square-foot space will also have arcade games, an outdoor patio, as well as a 1970s-inspired Airstream satellite bar — a first for the restaurant chain with seven other locations throughout the Southeast. Superica in Strawberry Hill will have a larger bar area, too.

Vibe: The restaurant’s colorful design draws inspiration from Texas dance halls and West Texas cafés with some vintage elements. Designer Smith Hanes worked with the Superica team on the design.

Food: Chef Fry’s Houston upbringing inspired much of the menu, which includes wood-fired steaks, whole-roasted fish, and tacos with fresh handmade tortillas. Highlights include:

  • Queso fundido – broiled Monterey Jack and Chihuahua cheeses, warm tortillas and salsa cremosa ($10).
  • Camarones brochetas – chili spiced gulf shrimp stuffed with jack cheese and jalapeño, wrapped in bacon and served with a frothy Mexican butter ($27).
  • Skirt steak fajitas al carbon ($28).
  • Tacos al carbon – flour tortillas stuffed with your choice of meat (chicken, steak, carnitas) and smoked onions, served with salsa cremosa and frijoles ($16-$18).
  • Lunch special – Superica’s best deal is the weekday lunch special. For $12.99, diners can choose two items from a short list of menu classics, including nachos, enchiladas, tacos, salads, and soups.
Yes, you must do an obligatory cheese pull and get it on Instagram.

  • Red Headed Stranger – Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka, Campari, fresh grapefruit ($11).
