Corri Smith Home Tour
It’s not surprising that Corri Smith, owner and founder of Black Wednesday, also lives in a black house with black furniture and a closet of black clothes.
Smith’s creative PR firm Black Wednesday has clients like bardo, Chopt, and Protagonist. She’s been in Charlotte for 12 years, and has rented in Druid Hills for the last six.
Background: Less than four miles from Uptown and a mile-and-a-half from Camp North End, Smith had been looking to buy in Druid Hills for years before she bought a tear-down in October 2019 and had a semi-custom home built. She officially moved in February 2020, right before the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s a challenging time being a first-time homeowner, and a small business owner. “I just hope I can keep paying my mortgage,” Smith says.
The house: The home was built and designed by Blake and Lara Bucci of Customcraft, a new homebuilder in Charlotte. At 1,440 square feet, it’s two stories with three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths. The third bedroom, which is downstairs, is Smith’s office and yoga studio (a necessity these days). In total, the house cost around $250,000.

Style: With prayer candles lining the steps, tarot card decks on shelves, and black accent walls, the overall vibe is a little witchy but undoubtedly warm.
She gets furniture and home accessories from places like World Market or West Elm, along with some local, funkier spots like Wayne’s Super Market for her favorite prayer candles.
“It’s a strange place but I’m obsessed with it,” she says of Wayne’s.
Art: Smith is big on independent artists. Broken Isn’t Bad is one of her favorites for prints, tarot, etc., and the purple and black acrylic and resin piece in her living room is by Chris Watts.
Plant mom: Smith’s home, especially the stairwell, is dripping with plants. She shops at Oakdale Greenhouse, Melone’s, and Old Time Pottery for most of them.
Here’s a look around.
