Everything you need to know about Charlotte Beer Garden

Location: The exact address of the 16,663-square-foot bar and restaurant is 1300 South Tryon Street. It’s near other South End staples like Midnight Diner, All American Pub, and Hoppin’. (Note: There is no parking, so plan accordingly.)

Hours: For the first few weeks, limited hours will be 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily and after that, it’ll be open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

Tap count: 436. This makes Charlotte Beer Garden home to the “largest draft beer selection in the world” according to a statement from CBG. For comparison, Pour, Charlotte’s largest self-serve bar, has 118 taps. CBG’s beer pricing can be found in the Untappd app and beer is available in 5oz, 10oz, and pint pours (with a few exceptions, like those with extremely high ABV).

How to order: Due to the volume and rate of turnover, CBG will use the Untappd website and mobile app to constantly refresh its offerings instead of printed menus. All beers will have corresponding menu numbers. For quicker service, ask for the numbers instead of the beer as it makes it easier for the bartenders to find it on the large tap walls.

Cocktails: The cocktail lounge is located on the ground floor, next to the giant tree. Drinks range from $9-$12.

Food: CBG has a full kitchen. The menu is divided into six parts — appetizers, poutines, pizzas, salads, burgers/sandwiches, and entrees. Dishes range from tuna wontons to fried shrimp to filet medallions (full menu below).

Service/Reservations: The massive three-story beer garden has multiple bars, which are all first come, first served. Tables are seated by a hostess and will have dedicated servers. Reservations are available for weekdays only and can be made on OpenTable.

Background: The owner is Niall Hanley, who operates eight Raleigh food and drink venues under Hibernian Hospitality Group. What’s next? Hanley says he has plans for more beer gardens in other cities as well as another bar concept here in Charlotte.

At 16,663-square-feet, Charlotte Beer Garden is huge. It has four bars on three levels with seating for more than 500 people.

First floor: The ground level has two bars. For starters, there’s an indoor-outdoor local beer bar, which Hanley calls “an homage to North Carolina beer,” with 190 taps. For cocktails, there’s a full bar and lounge in the front at the base of a tree that fills the two-story atrium. There’s also a dog-friendly patio with fire pits and heaters.

Second Floor: Another bar, this one with 222 taps featuring beers from all over the world. This area will be set up like a traditional beer hall and cater to sports fans. There’s also a small private event space (30 people) and a balcony overlooking South Tryon.

Third Floor: The greenhouse-style, partially covered rooftop bar with 24 taps will be the main attraction this spring. It’s got picnic table seating and will be dripping in plants, shrubs, and vines. Look for CBG to add fire pits, lawn games like cornhole, and possibly even some axe-throwing lanes. The rooftop is available for private parties.
