Popular Charlotte-focused clothing brand Glory Days Apparel is opening its first brick-and-mortar store this Saturday, August 1 in the RailYard area of South End.

The exact address is 1423 Winnifred Street, across the street from Hoppin’.

Why: The Glory Days Apparel brand gained popularity through its presence at pop-up markets throughout Charlotte.

Harris explains that the question of a storefront continued to come up when interacting with fans who wanted to shop Glory Days in-person without having to wait for the next pop-up event.

“It’s humbling and exciting that our fans want us to have a spot. Having a footprint here in Charlotte and saying, ‘This is our city and we’re proud to represent it’ solidifies it,” Harris says.

Beyond just customer desire, Harris explains that the Glory Days product line has expanded substantially, making it a challenge to tote the brand’s full offerings around to events scattered all over the city.

Harris notes that the size of the micro-retail spaces (the shop will be 368-square-feet) below the Centro Railyard apartments allows small business owners to have the room they need to grow without jumping into a massive storefront with a debilitating rent. It makes the location an appealing choice for a first shop.

Founder JD Harris started Glory Days Apparel in his home garage. The mural behind Harris is painted by local artist Darion Fleming (@daflemingo).
