Volo, a new Italian restaurant in the old Lumiere space, will open Monday, November 18

The restaurant takes the space formerly occupied by Lumiere, a popular French restaurant that abruptly closed back in May. The exact address is 1039 Providence Road next to Harris Teeter.

Menu: Volo will be open for dinner only to start, with lunch service rolling out after a few weeks. They made it a point to highlight that the entire operation — from ownership to the kitchen to the bar — is staffed by Italians and Italian-Americans. So you’re getting the real deal. The opening dinner menu is tight, featuring five appetizers ($12-$14), six pastas ($14-$22) and four entrees ($20-$35). They also have a limited bar menu with select bites available late night.

Tasting flights: Can’t decide what to get? Let the chef pick for you. The Italian word volo, meaning flight, comes into play with a rotating selection of seafood, meat or vegetable tasting menu “flights.”

Cocktails: Mixologist Alessandro Mereu has a lineup of elaborate signature cocktails priced $8 to $20, including a bacon-infused Old Fashion presented under a glass dome filled with smoke. Another drink, the Aky y el Cubano ($16), is served in a light bulb-shaped glass and presented in a cigar box.

Hours: Volo is open daily at 4:30 p.m. for dinner service, closing at 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
