Who: Josephine, Allen, Jackson, Nat, Hollins
Their story: Josephine and her husband were looking for a house more suited to their family needs. They chose a new neighborhood in Matthews that had a handful of builders to choose from — they went with Westwood.
Josephine’s wishlist included en suites for every room, no formal living room, office, big closet, a playroom/man room, a white open kitchen and a good outdoor space for hosting. The build out took 18 months, and they were able to move in March.

Square feet: 4,400 square feet
Rooms: 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms
Style in 3 words: Glam, modern, comfortable
Design and inspiration
Outfits are easier: Josephine told me she’s used to putting outfits together, but decorating her home was a whole other ball game. She entrusted Ashely DeLapp of Ashley DeLapp Interior Design to bring her vision to life.
“Outfits you can change,” Josephine said. “If it doesn’t come out the way I thought, I can throw something different on. (With interiors) I can tell you what looks good, but I don’t know how to get to that point. Luckily I have talented people in my life.”
Ashley described Josephine’s house as glam and dressed up but comfortable and child-proof.
“It’s a modern take on tradition,” Ashley said. “Josephine told me she didn’t want anything she’d seen on Instagram before — it had to be unique.”
Pops of color and punchy paper: Josephine loves color — specifically pink and black – and her husband Allen loves the color plum. From a green bar to bright pink chairs in the living room, each room has pops of personality.
Some of my favorite details include accent wallpaper in the office and powder room, the high-gloss light pink dining room ceiling and the deep plum pop of color on the built-ins.
XL sofas: Even though the house looks dressed up, it still lives comfortably.
“Everyone has their spot on the couch, and my kids don’t act any different in (the living room) than their playroom,” Josephine said.
Ashley expertly chose fabrics and finishes that make sense for a family with young kids. The sofas in the living room are custom made with a childproof velvet, and they’re longer than your average couch. And each child has a locker in the drop zone so they can stash their belongings after school or practice.
Here’s a look around.
